    Future of the EU

What would you see the EU will be at its maximum extend? my guess would be everything west of Russia in Europe and maybe even a Russia in the EU someday.

I'd rather have Turkey than Israel. Morocco has already been rejected. I would certainly expect the rest of the Balkans.

The Balklans and Ukraine, but not Russia or Turkey.

Possibly Iceland and Norway, but probably not Switzerland.

    And never Israel.

Iceland is thinking of joining currently as they have economic problems. Norway won't for the moment but that could change. Switzerland is incredibly indecisive, so they will probably not ever join.

The Lisbon won't make the EU a "Superstate" anymore than the other treaties did. We are always fed this "superstate nonsense for every treaty. Its never been true.

Been rejected for now, doesn't mean the EU won't change their minds in a few years, especially if Turkey is coming in (which I think it will). I also think EU membership to both Israel and Palestine will be offered as a carrot as part of a peace deal in a few years time.

I'm with Valery Giscard d'Estaing, author of the Constitutional Treaty
    - "Turkish membership will be the end of the European Union."

Member states must meet basic levels of democracy and civil rights. Isreal wouldn't pass this test in its current state. It would also have to give up its $3bn annual handout from the US - which it wouldn't do.

Eventual implosion IMHO - it has become an overinflated project - like all Empires it will overextend and collapse - the sooner the better!
