MEP's to Vote on EU Wide Census Today

A committee of MEPs will vote today on plans for a new EU census which critics say includes demands for unnecessary personal information.

They have warned that the proposal, which would allow the European Commission to collect facts and figures on population and housing across the EU, would go further than any national census.

The census will also demand details about women's sexual partners

Just to clarify, the EU will not be doing any census taking.

They are proposing standards for national census.

That could be interesting and an opportunity to ask more intimate questions (eg how many gay people are there in the country?), but given the length of the census, the fact that many don't read the instructions, others can't be bothered doing it al and that there is invariably a conspiracy laden whispering campaign leading to distrust among a minority and particularly so among immigtants, do we we really want one which has the burden of being (mis)percieved as an EU census - given the paranoia that exists with that instutution (also classic bad luck EU timing when the Brits lose sensitive data on half heir population)?
We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns — the ones we don't know we don't know.
