Results update at 21.40 Croatian time: 98.24% of votes processed, Yes 66.24%, No 33.16%.

The European Parliament has already approved Croatia's accession to the EU.

The next part of the accession process is the ratification of Croatia's accession by the parliaments of the 27 existing member states, a process which should be completed by June 2013.

Assuming all goes to schedule, Croatia will join the EU on 1st July, 2013.

Not sarcastic, not funny, not sexy, not doctrinaire, just a bureaucratic blueprint for organising (relatively) peaceful co-existence between the nations that occupy what is probably the most blood-drenched part of this world.

Oh, and its estimated to be about 170,000 pages long!

If you mean in the same sense that it was not to their advantage to have been part of the German Empire, you do have a point. But there is a history behind this, and it hasn't been forgotten by the elites.

    Wrong.
Today's elites in Croatia are mostly of communist origins so they certainly don't cherish those historical bonds with the Germans. Our new Minister of Foreign Affairs is London's student of diplomacy, not Berlin's.

So, no jitters as it turns out. More like a pretty ringing endorsement.

Surprisingly or not surprisingly depending on your viewpoint a re-run is being talked about if the is a no vote.
Also what happens the "legal guarantees" if Sunday's referendum goes south?
