Ronan Fanning: Lemass would have wanted us to be at the heart of Europe - Analysis, Opinion - Independent.ie
According to the world of Ronan Fanning, Ireland has the choice of "Allying ourselves to Britian's isolationist policy or being at the heart of Europe". Has he being smoking crack before writing this rubbish? For a start, how does disagreeing with the new Fiscal treaty entail "Isolationism"? Maybe the Europhiles may not like to hear it, but SMALL COUNTRIES THAT ARE SUCCESSFUL DO EXIST OUTSIDE THE EU. Also, how does disagreeing with the EU entail isolation in the world? Like it or not, the EU is only a speck of dust on the map.
Also, how are we meant to be at the "centre of Europe", when it is clearly obvious that we are on the fringe of Europe, in every sense of the word?
Seriously, I nearly ripped the paper after reading this article.
