Ganley to campagn for a 'United States of Europe': SBP

The lead story in the SBP is that Declan Ganley is to campaign for a 'United States of Europe' with a view to having another pan-European election campaign on that platform for the 2014 elections. Ganley is proposing that the USE will be loosely based upon the founding of the USA although States will be able to opt out at any time and their will have to be an opt in or out referendum in every country. The USE would federalise sovereign debt although only after it has been discounted. The USE will take further sovereignty off nation states particularly in the area of foreign affairs (and presumably defence as well).

That's a turnaround by Ganley, he campaigned against Lisbon!

Don't suppose you have a link to this piece of blatant oppertunism?

Which defence contractor is funding this drive?

There is no turnaround by Ganley in this. He has been rather consistent in stating that he would support a 'democratic' USE with actual elected people running it and where there was consent from the governed rather than the appointed masters of the Commission and Treaties being presented as fait accomplies. Many incorrectly interpreted this as Euroscepticism. He just did not like the direction the EU was going rather than opposing European Federalism.

Well, yes - but he campaigned against it because it didn't deliver a USE. True, his various attacks on Lisbon were generally cheap and mostly dishonest slogans unrelated to that, but that was always the reason for his opposition.

Luckily for me, I don't want a USE either, so I get to continue to oppose Ganley - but I look forward with some expectation to the choice facing some of his erstwhile supporters....

Well, "hilarity ensues" would have done equally well from my point of view.

It will be called "USE" ?

That fits in with how we feel concerning the rich banks lobbying Brussels and Paris to get PAYE taxpayers paying for their gambling debts.

You really could not make this stuff.
Dublin, Europe's most supportive tourist destination for Peados, thanks to no electronic passport swipe in Dublin Airport. Ireland always facilitates child molestors.
