There could well still be a referendum (even Creighton says '50/50'), as it does, in my opinion, involve a transfer of sovereignty. Either way, this is a sticking-plaster 'accord' - it simply isn't enough to do what it says it is designed to do (i.e. placate foreign speculators and investors) - and there will be something else within months, probably weeks in fact, much more substantial...

It was far from crackpot, it was spot on. It also stated that fiscal union was 'inevitable', and argued that monetary union without fiscal union was a nonsense (something denied by certain Europhiles, particularly FF and FG party hacks, for years).

The poll itself (added after the thread opened) stayed open for four days (as advertised), and merely asks whether people would vote yes or no in such a referendum. It now transpires that Eamon Gilmore has said that a referendum is to be actively considered...

More visionary than crackpot, I'd suggest...
So a poll is opened on an important subject and closed after 4 days and only 417 replies?
Four days is a very short time span for a poll on this forum and on a topic of this importence.

The poll is worthless because many people have been precluded and prevented from voting by its premature closure.

An accurate and indicative poll should stay open for at least two weeks in my opinion.

I can only conclude that this predjudiced poll was designed to avail of an initial unreflective and knee jerk reaction to the term "fiscal union'.

As I said before the poll on this thread is biased and worthless.
It tells us nothing of any real value.

The poll on this thread is a farce.
It was only open for four days and recieved 417 mainly knee jerk replies.

People need to reflect on this important issue and the majority P.ie forum members have been denied a proper outlet to voice their preferences on this currently worthless poll which should be reopened or cancelled

It wasn't I who put up the poll, or decided the time-limit on it. I am adamant that what I posted in the OP is correct, regardless of the current phase of denial by EU elites or the fact that their 'accord' is merely a sticking plaster on a gaping artery. Give it a matter of weeks and they will be back around the table at an 'emergency summit' to deal with yet another crisis - only next time they will go the whole hog towards full or substantial fiscal union.

The utter absurdity of monetary union without at least substantial fiscal union is plain to all those who have eyes to see - but we were deceived time and time again since before signing up for the single currency by a EUphile political establishment, particularly the then FF/PD governments, who claimed that one without the other was (a) workable, and (b) made any logical sense.

The 'accord' we have just been told about is merely the first step. Complete self-deluding denial is kind of like that...

Father Ted's Mrs Doyle always gets the Irish to vote Yes!

I have seen the Irish Father Ted Series.

Mrs Doyle asks if the visitor wants a cup of Tea?

The Irish always say "NO" initially!

Then she says "Go On!, Go On!, Go On!

And then they vote yes for the Tea!

It must be something in the Irish past, in their DNA which seeks to hide their real wishes and desires, that they always say "No" initially and then say "Yes".

    Very Strange!

Why cant the Irish come to the rational / logical answer the first time -- if they want to drink tea and eat cake!

    I am totally flumuxed!

Treaty text available now, if it makes any difference to your voting intentions.

I would have voted NO on principle, but now I can say that I would vote NO. Even if I can't vote, I can pursuede people that can to use it to send a clear Message to the Eurocrats: NO!
I'm 16. I despise every current Irish party, except the SDLP and the Alliance(I support neither). Economic Left/Right:-5.12 - Social Libertarian/Authoritarian:-0.36

If anyone knew the answer to that one, we'd be half way to sorting our problems Angela.

Sorry if it's been answered elsewhere but what does the time frame on when we hear about whether or not we'll have a referendum look like?
