    Euro Elections 2009

With the General Election campaign now over, thought now turns to the 2009 European Elections.

Who will the various parties run in the constituencies?

FF will run Brian Crowley in Munster. His running mate could be Michael Smith or Martin Cullen, if he's dropped from the cabinet next week. Colm Burke was co-opted following Simon Coveney's election to the Dail. Fine Gael could do with a high-profile candidate in Munster, Jimmy Deenihan could fit the bill.

Dick Spring could be tempted to run for labour with a presidential election in the offing in 2011. He will represent the party's best chance to westle the third seat away from Cathy Sinnott.

In Dublin, Gay Mitchell, Pronsias De Rossa and Eoin Ryan look certain to run. Ivor Callelly could be an ideal running mate for Ryan for FF. He is on the Northside and you would have a perfectly balanced ticket in the City.

In Leinster, FF will try and wrestle back the second seat from FG. Dick Roche would be an ideal candidate with Liam Aylward. In Connacht-Ulster, Sean O'Neachtain would be a likely candidate, it is very much open who will join him on the ticket there. Jim McDaid has blotted his copy book once too often and I doubt if he will be approached. What about Cecilia Keaveney? She lost her seat unluckily in the recent election and it would do her no harm at all to raise her profile. Another candidate here could be Senator Pascal Mooney.

Interesting list of candidates, but couldn't we going to have re-drawn constituencies by then?

ALL three Munster MEPs are Cork based so it's about time Limerick or Waterford got a look in. Maybe Michael Noonan for FG?

Smith won't be running in the Euro's. In fact no prominent FFer will take on Crowley in Europe unless the boundaries are changed.. so expect some up and coming young buck, looking to make a name for themselves in a Dail constituency sometime

Dick Spring would be ideal for labour to run in munster.

I dont know about Jimmy Deenihan or Michael Noonan, i'd say Enda would perfer to send young deasy from waterford out to europe.

Europe is the best place for Deasy but he'd never get elected.

Moved to elections as it wasn't specific to Munster

The Greens have a few options in Dublin. Considering McDonalds performance, we have a shot at taking a seat. Not sure if DeRossa would run again, what age is he?

Dan Boyle would be the obvious candidate for Munster, cant see anyone else emerging.

Connaught-Ulster: our 2% at the GE doesn't give us much of a chance. Considering the size of the constituency, 2 candidates might make sense.

Leinster is anyones guess. Malcolm Noonan?

We should run COG or Parlon in East (probably Parlon), Donal Lyons in Northwest, Liz O'Donnell in Dublin and if Pat Cox rejoined the party he should run in South but then again that won't happen so instead we should run Eddie Creighton or Brigid Teefy.
