What is needed is a combination of tough measures to prevent begging combined with real opportunities for Roma to learn trades and work.
No, we need to deport them all and expel romania from the EU or leave the common travel area ourselves. Enforcing our own laws would work too.

Our own knackers are enough to deal with.

I don't see organised gangs of homosexuals begging and stealing as way to make a living nor do I see homosexuals using children in such a reprehensible fashion.

Like it or not, the Roma are causing a problem and it is far easier to make that problem someone else's rather than making the investment needed to integrate them. I think Sarko's onto a winner here. I wish we could see our way to doing the same.

We don't engage in aggressive begging on the streets of our towns and cities.

Dont expect anything like this to happen here, our Gardai are much to busy helping to evict Irish families from homes, beating up protestors in Mayo, driving around at speed government ministers and popping down to the local Spar for a jumbo breafast roll.

And dont forget how much more diverse and multicultural richer we all are for having the Roma here. I cant tell you how much I love being hassled for change every time I post a letter.

Now now Bi Ciuin. They are making a contribution! (to vagrancy and litter). We need them to do the crime the Irish won't do.

    This is rubbish.

They were not a law abiding productive group who turned to criminality in desperation when wider society discriminated against them for no apparent reason.

They were and are parasites who have no interest in educating their children, who exist by scrounging and thieving from the rest of whatever society is unfortunate enough to host them.

Having a negative view on such a group isn't discrimination, its logic.

I sympathise with whatever country has to subsidise these people, I just don't understand why Ireland has to be one.

I suppose it must be if it doesn't fit into your Weltanschauung!

Read the Wikipedia article I gave a link for. The Roma have been savagely discriminated against for a very long time. Hundreds of thousands of them were sent, along with the Jews, to the Nazi death camps. They still suffer severe marginalisation in many European countries. This is very well documented. You should read more. As I said earlier, they have few opportunities other than to turn to crime or begging. They will never be able to "bootstrap" themselves out of their state of degradation without help.

I think you should reflect before using words like "parasites" about an entire ethnic group. It sounds like the Nazis talking about the Jews. Why not try giving them decent opportunities to educate their children and realistic hope that this will lead to the children finding jobs? Look on it as an investment in a better quality of life for all of us.

It is ignorance-based prejudice. A failure to recognise that social deprivation generation after generation becomes a self-sustaining vicious circle.

As already said, I would like the Gardai to stamp out begging - if they could spare a bit of time away from the golf links. Then they would have to seek employment, which I hope would be offered them, but let's not forget that we have free movement of people within the EU.
