Genetically modified potato wins EU approval

A German-engineered potato on Tuesday became the first genetically modified organism in 12 years to win approval for cultivation in the European Union, sparking celebration among GMO manufacturers and outrage among opponents.

Very interesting. People are saying that it marks the beginning of a more welcoming attitude towards GMO by the EU.

Luddite statement, the biggest problem is not GMO's as such, moreso, it is our failure to understand the consequences of their usage. All technology, at first, will be subject to scrutiny and rightly so, however, all we ever seem to hear about is stupid comments about doomsday/28 Days Later scenarios.

    LOL nice!

I was actually hoping this would bring out the conspiracy theorists to keep us entertained for a while, as this must be driving them nuts (EU + Germany + GMO). They didn't disappoint!

There are serious social issues with the use of GMO's and chucking around smearwords: doesn't make them go away! The so-called "terminator gene" is particularly dangerous.
