He3, you and others on P.ie have an obsession about the EU and an 'EU Army' that I would class as paranoid. Some of your OPs just reinforce this.

Just look at some of the replies on this thread. Usual suspect wingnuts - and me falling into your trap.

German politicians, and French, Spanish, British and Maltese for that matter can say what they like about the EU, defence and an EU Army. Such matters are subject to unanimity at the Council of Ministers and nothing will happen with Ireland's say so.

As I said we can let the others go ahead if we want but we don't have to join up. It's that simple.

It doesn't matter how many times you are told we don't have to join any EU defence structures if we don't want. The decision rests with the Irish government and the Dail - not the Germans, not the French and not 'Brussels'!

And along comes a paranoid wingnut to reinforce my point.

Do you really trust those retarded cretins in Leinster House to stand up to the EU on behalf of the Irish People? It is quite likely that a major war will break out in the next five years and Brussels will demand a united response from the so-called member states and you can be sure that the Irish political parties will eagerly propose the introduction of conscription if that will please their EU masters.

Unless the EU decides to invade somewhere nice like California, I think the Irish should refuse to be sent off to some godforsaken extremist cess pit, to fight people who are so determined that they would buy a rocket launcher before they'd get themselves a decent pair of sandals.

Once you meet people on a battle field who would rip their own arm off to hit you with it, you've already lost.

That is an Irish issue not an EU one. But the Irish people keep returning 'those retarded cretins' to Leinster House. Maybe you should blame them.

Brussels can demand what it likes. We can still say No. Is that really difficult for you and others to understand?

What evidence have you that any Irish politician will propose conscription to some mythical EU army?

More of the paranoid guff I've come to expect from this site.

By voting "YES" to Lisbon, on the advice of our government, we may have already surrendered any right to refuse. You'll not find out until a crisis arises: then we'll find out how smart or how stupid: Brian Cowen and Enda Kenny have been.

The rule of modern warfare is: that, if your potential enemy won't make an act of armed aggression against you, you contract with a third party to do it for him on his behalf.

It is hard for people to understand as the modern world doesnt work from the people up, it works from the politicians down.

If the TV, Media and Politicians fall down to their knees in event of an EU demand then so will the people.

The majority of people are gullible fools who suck up tabloid nonsence and state run Television.

They're easily controlled and they will always be the majority.

People voted yes to the Lisbon treaty without ANY obvious benefits to themselves, this is because they were told to, this is how it works.
