That's more than enough to form 3 brigades.

Kinda difficult when they were attacked in both world wars in order to drag them in, you think? never mind having war declared on them by Germany and Italy in 1941.

So Irish people are craven, and therefore the EU will let them out of their obligations laid out in the Treaty to increase their military capabilities, or to extend solidarity with all civilian and military capabilities at their disposal in case of an attack?

(Funny how the Irish never had this manner of "temperament" when fighting for their independence.)

Franco Frattini: “It is necessary to create a European army”

In an interview with Le Figaro ahead of a Franco-Italian summit, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini says that the Greek economic crisis “requires us to reinforce European economic governance”, believing that in “this area, France has a very important role to play: next year she will chair both the G8 and the G20” and that this represents an “excellent opportunity to define this new governance.”

In response to the question “What must be done to reinforce the common European identity?” Frattini replied: “Building a Europe of defence, that is to say, a European army. In order to increase its capacity for intervention on the international scene. The creation of a Franco-Italian alpine brigade, which will be announced in Paris, represents a first step. We hope that other countries will adhere to this idea. Spain, why not, or Germany? This is not about imposing a European army, but about providing the means to intervene. If it wants to be credible in the fight against terrorism, the stabilisation of crisis zones and nuclear security, Europe must ‘produce’ her own security and not rely solely on that of the US.”

He also affirmed his “complete” support for a European citizenship policy, arguing: “We have defined the mandate of the president of Europe, reinforced the powers of the Commission, and widened those of the European parliament. It is now necessary to address the European people, explore their roots [and] reaffirm their fundamental rights. “

This is my last effort to try get you understand reality.

Irish Democracy is based on the nation state of Ireland.
Democratic plebiscites decide basis issues within the confines of the 26 counties.

Under your unrealistic and fantastic future scenario the Irish electorate by referendum agree to relinquish to the EU as a body the right to decide whether or not the state of Ireland participates in a war against another state.

Under that scenario you outline Irish democracy would have ceased to exist and would have been replaced by a federated EU democracy.

    Do you understand that Earnest.?
Read it again Earnest s-l-o-w-l-y to make sure you do.

Under such a fantastic scenario Earnest my bounden duty as an Irishman and patriot would be to protect my country by force of arms against those wishing to destroy Irish democracy.

Clearly the unlikely scenrio you propose would have been fomented and instigated largely by forces external to Ireland.
Those in Ireland who supported such forces would rightly be regraded as traitors and subject to normal punishments reserved for same.

Earnest yours is the mentality of the civil war provocateur and is base and needless.
    You need to mature politically.

Coordination missions with the IRA preceding the French campaign,
Military missions directed against Britain for the purposes of gathering technical and weather data, Political missions against Britain undertaken later in the war, when the threat of direct German action against Britain had receded.

Sean Russell, Seamus O'Donovan, Stephen Hayes, Frank Ryan.......

It went a bit further than delivering them pizzas.

Its old ground but seeing the poster oldira1 "Enniskillen wasn't too bad a day really" commenting about German history in relation to european armies thought Id bring it up.
