EU leaders meeting in *Berlin* on Monday (President picked?)

Not Brussels. Berlin. On a significant date, too. Meeting has been "previously unscheduled".

Speculation is rife over whether the EU President has been selected for us.

Nov. 6 (Bloomberg) — European Union leaders announced a previously unscheduled meeting during next week’s festivities to mark the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, spurring speculation the EU may pick its first president.

The dinner meeting on Nov. 9 in Berlin comes as Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, currently in charge of the EU’s agenda, tries to broker a deal to fill the posts of president and foreign policy chief. All 27 EU leaders will attend the dinner, which will be hosted by Chancellor Angela Merkel, a German government spokesman said.

“This may be the meeting that breaks the logjam on who becomes president and foreign minister,” Shada Islam, an analyst at the Brussels-based European Policy Centre, said in a telephone interview. “The leaders need to move fast to correct the image that the EU moves at a glacial pace.” ...

Cowen will be told who to vote for.

France and Germany will be the key deciders in this with Britain, Italy & Spain playing a supporting role.

Poland has already been looked after with the appointment of Jerzy Buzek as President of the European Parliament.

We are on the Outer Rim and will be given our instructions under the veneer of a 'request' to support the pre chosen candidate.

Yup... anything that happens in the EU now will not be in our interested. Decisions will be made for us and we will be holding on tugging on the back of the EU jumper.

When they poured millions into Ireland to give it the infrastructure to compete internationally. Mostly German money, it has to be said. Eaten bread is soon forgotten, isn't it?

We voted yes on Lisbon, now that what was wanted was gotten, we can be safely ignored by the big players in the EU.

Indeed, we should force every member state that leaves the eu and have gotten more money than they put in. to pay back every euro. That should teach them.
And if the member state have payed more into the eu, then they could just leave.
Still, even as the investor consensus ravages the euro, it's worth remembering that the same herd instinct not long ago was pronouncing last rites for the dollar. Last year, as China's central bank chief called for a new global currency and Russian central bankers dumped greenbacks to buy euros, many saw the dollar's decline as inevitable. Now, the dollar is riding high, and the euro looks bedraggled.

Sure. The ECB engineered the financial crisis through raising interest rates, so this gave them the tools to do just that. (Britain's also Germany's biggest creditor, BTW.)

And now, in Berlin, it may be that the EU president has been selected for us. Don't you wish that you could vote for the position instead, at least?

There is no position of "EU President" on offer. The post that is being considered is non-executive and as such doesn't merit the holding of a federal-style direct election, unless it's a federal super-state you really want to usher in, AI?
