EU should have more money for guns - Solana

Nostalgia ain't what it used to be, as they say. The tortuous denials that Lisbon meant more arms spending by the EU seem so long ago now don't they?

Today in the Examiner the EU's exhaustingly titled High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy blows away the fudge and demands more money.

'We currently have a gap between our ambitions and our resources which must be addressed.... we need to strengthen our... military capabilities and boost their funding in order to back up our political decisions.'

When he says 'our ambitions' he means yours, because he and his kindred spirits now have the authority to declare what your ambitions are. They may not actually be ambitions of yours as far as you are concerned but now as far as Solana is concerned it is a case of Yes High Representative, how much Sir?

The article - 'Lisbon will strengthen EU's security legacy' - is not on the web edition.

But, but I read on peoplekorps that...

    There you go!

Maybe Solana would settle for Drumm's seventy grand this year?

Does this breach the legal guarantees? As i believe defence spending was referred to.

The P.ie Lisbon Choral Society (you know who you are) seem all to have fallen into a dead faint with the shock of seeing their fond and genuine reassurances that all we would be expected to do would be to buy an extra pair of boots turn to dust in High Rep Javier's hands.....

Tbh, I think most of the vociferous yes persons are keen for us to share the White Mans Burden in securing "Energy Security" and anything else that a power bloc might want to lay its hands on.

No surprise there, we (EU) will be in a war and moral pressure will be brought on Ireland to supply troops within a short time.
