It's just like the monstrosity they built at Wood Quay, right in front of Christchurch, an act of cultural vandalism by short-sighted gombeen mediocrities.

That was done when Fine Gael & Labour ran Dublin Corporation.

The problem with most of these protests is that nobody believes it any more, we had millions wasted on the Glen Of The Downs, and nothing changed, the same amount of people visit the area and are unaffected by the new road.

We had Carrickmines, more millions, was anything of value ever found there? Does anyone know where it is or even visit the area?

There are thousands of artifacts discovered in digs every year that end up in warehouses as they are of very little importance.

Tara is of course, a different story, but when you moan about every road and by-pass, people stop listening.

Tbh I think in the main people don't stop listening ... because they ain't listening in the first place to stop doing so .... people in the main have no love or care or interest in our past ... we are where we are .... a limited few try very hard to preserve what we still have (excl the considerable no. of landowners to whom credit is due for retaining the past on their lands), succeeding on the odd occasion ...

Tara is being destroyed, along with Clonmacnoice and Skellig Mor, by Grand Design. TPTB will not tolerate any source of spiritual energy that undermines their global ambitions.

Utter rubbish. The new road is further away form the existing road. Tara will be better for it. Get over it, we need decent roads.

As regards peak oil , we have had already peak water (canals), peak coal (steam & railroads) and now we will have peak roads (oil), so what, something else will come along. If it doesn;t we will adjust. We always do - that's why we have 6bn and rising.

All the other crimes of Bertie Ahern and Fianna Fáil will eventually be forgotten, but the destruction of Tara will never be forgotton. It will remain the symbol of a people who spat on intelligence and beauty and raised up the filthy gombeen as their king.

50,000 vehicle a day Motorways were built when projected volumes were never likely to exceed 10,000 on vast stretches of the Motorways - even without Peak Oil.

We will be paying for these roads long after we've all taken to using bicycles.
The FF lite's only legacy from their brief period 'in power': lots more motorways, less public transport. And Dan Boyle, more FF than FF themselves.
