Well at least you woke me up with that one, i will be still laughing at that one tomorrow, standards and RTE in the one sentence, its just not possible.

Thats siad i think Paul Williams would do well on Prime Time, he has got the same level of slip shod investigation as Katie Hannon and Mark "i could eat myself like a bar of Chococlate" Little

During the TV programme, a reference was made to the amount of support each side had and this was expressed as: protestors = 1% and Shell supporters = 99%.

How is it possible to strike a balance in a situation like this ?

When there is a split in a community over something like this, things can become very bitter. Some people benefit more than others, some people are damaged more than others. Then there are the disagreements, and the disagreements in the opposition about how to campaign.

The programme was garbage (it was a Shell schmooze job), but given the timiing was more than garbage, it was a highly political attempt to portray the Republican movement as violent and anti-democratic two days before people vote.

I have no problems about the fence being damaged, but I do have problems with the balaclavas. Firstly, they mean the people doing the damage weren't prepared to stand over their action in public, and secondly it leaves the door open to the possibility of them having acted as agents provocateurs. There is also an implicit threat of violence disproportionate to the situation.

Anyone who covers their face in a demonstration in a country in which demonstrations are legal should be immediately suspect as being a possibly being police, or else not having the guts to be accountable for their actions.

Yeah, by a failed ex-FF councillor who's main role in Erris is as the local village idiot in Bangor - hardly a reliable source for such stats

PS Whats even sadder is that you beleived it

The same individual who came up with that stat is a member of the Mayo Pro-gas group, membership approximatly 5-6, mostly from outside Erris including Mayo's very own Orange Man one Brian Cafferty

Ecoguy, your ranting is being viewed solely by your own small consitiuency here on Politics.ie. If it makes you feel better, by all means continue in the same manner.

However, last night on TV3 was a mere skirmish in the overall war you are fighting against Shell (which you lost badly). If you wish to win the "war" your side needs to adopt a clear strategy (you can be absolutely sure that Shell are following a carefully planned strategy, and at this moment, are reviewing the success of last night's TV programme, and tweaking their plan of action accordingly).

You and your colleagues can continue to spout venomous tirades against Shell on small forums such as this, but if that is the main plank of your plan, you will inevitably fail in your objective to stop the gas project.

Unless S2S has the capacity to recognise where mistakes have been made, they are doomed to repeat them.
