    Painful Plastic

Hi all , I would like to know if any other counties Plastic recycling centers have been taken away... recently all the local Plastic centers have been closed and according to the council there is only 1 dump collecting plastic in the whole county of wexford... They want us to be green but then they take away all facilities. I have a bee in my bonet about this and what I would really like to know has this happened nationwide.. so come on advise for your county.............. Many thanks.. a P'd of recycling person in wexford.....

Fingal CoCo runs a number of recycling sites that take plastics Fingal County Council - Recycling . But I am sceptical about what ultimately happens to much of our carefully seperated waste - what ends up in landfill or burnt on third world wasteland?

    Serious questions

I have some serious questions about recycling in Ireland:

There's a new Government website relevant to this: the Market Development Programme for Waste Resources

See web page under Materials>Plastics there.

I dont, most of it is simply buried with the rest of the landfill material, those green wheel bins are nothing but a PR exercise.

    Did anyone think otherwise?
If I could mass-sterilise the planet, I would. Seriously.

Leitrim has no plastics bring banks since a few years. I didn't understand this withdrawal either at the time. It coincided with the introduction that people within 250m of main roads needed to get bins from private operators, and with two new "civic amenity centres" in the country were you can drive 40 kilometers to bring your recycables to. We are quite near to Co. Cavan fortunately and use their plastic bring banks.
