Denmark has finally figured out that all their investment in wind resulted in zero benefit and have decided to pull investment and subsidies for wind.

Germany has actually made the same discovery and is winding back subsidies and are currently reviewing their energy plans.
Who is making what up here?
The reason why the governments are winding back is not because their investment benefits are zero. They are running out of money in this worst recession to invest further into the future.

What do you plan on doing when the wind stops blowing the reservoir runs dry and we are all in the Dark ?
Waiting for the big bang, don't know

Based on information to hand if we were currently depending on renewable we wouldn't have had power since Christmas. At least not on anything you could call a regular basis.
And from then on the wind doesn't blow anymore and the sea stands still...

Further I have not said that renewables are more dangerous.
I pointed out that dam failures are devastating killing hundreds of thousands of people. This devastation is one of your anti nuclear arguments. Thus by your reasoning we should stop building dams and hydroelectricity.

Don't insult people by completely ignoring their arguements and then throwing in false leads.
Yeah. Red herring in nice brine. Becomes a delicious pickle.
I wasn't intending to insult you. I was only trying to be polemic.
If I had ignored your arguments I wouldn't have had answered them.

I 100% agree which is why I am against massive investment in wind. Its lunacy as has been proven elsewhere.

Again have you any supporting data to show that producing "alternative" power is more labour intensive than "traditional" power.

It was infeed very calm weather after the cold spell, and even during it.

What would Fiannafailure say would happen during such a prolonged dead calm period to their system? The water stored in the reservoir could only be used once I suppose?

    Christel

The critiscisms of the lads do have a semblance of truth to them today, however we are not concerned with today in this thread or this year, we are concerned with a much improved infrastructure and may I say a much improved and customised engineering solution for all aspects of renewable energy, the S of I cat is not out of the bag yet and my own little network may yet have a nice little sting to attach to her quite elegant tail.

For the record, the greatest single loss of life from a single accident in the energy business was in fact when a dam collapsed at a conventional hydro reservoir.

S of I seawater pumped storage or indeed Turlough Hill do not pose any similar risk.

Hey Pat, refresh my memory. How is this project going to be financed if it goes ahead?

Its actually quite complex, but the short version is as follows, more detail closer to launch.

Private capital raised on the national and international markets to finance a hybrid national Co op/Corporation.

This does not mean that state investment is not welcome, but not necessary either.

What is your issue with real facts ?

There have been 3 separate links posted that say your are talking rubbish.

Whats the point. You make multiple posts where the "facts" you quote are complete and utter fantasy. You make claims that have no substance and when you are asked questions you display and complete lack of any knowledge on the subject.

In the last 4 or 5 pages multiple people have linked to the eirgrid site that shown how much actual wind power has been generated. its there for each and every day showing exactly how much wind-power was generated on an hour by hour basis.

The data on total wind capacity installed has also been posted multiple times on this thread.

Anyone with half an ounce of intelligence can see that the amount of power generated by wind over the last 3 or 4 months has been minimal even as a percentage of total installed capacity. Wind power is not reliable it is not secure and there isn't a valley in Ireland that could have stored enough water to cover the shortfall we experienced.

    So that leaves two options.

Either you don't have an ounce of intelligence

Or you are so close minded and focused on this "pet subject" of your that no data, facts, figures, information of evidence will change your mind.

Either way and further attempt to debate this issue with you is clearly a waste of time.

But you did not answer them. The dam disaster which I quoted killed 127,000 people. Should we continue with hydroelectricity in the face of such risk? By your points on nuclear we should not.

And yes it is a red herring. The deaths on the road are caused by poor driving or poor systems not by the fuel.

Banqiao Dam disaster in China was the failure of 62 dams in total in the year 1975.
You are free to open a new thread about nuclear power and invite me.

No fuel ... no drivers ... no deaths ...

That's not even 1.6 per mill. We have to work on it.

I have never said that a technical 100% sustainable electricity supply by renewables can 'only' rely on wind energy.

That Eirgrid graph has been used to fear the people. We would all sit in the dark. What if the wind doesn't blow anymore? ...
Not only John Gormley could "assure you" the wind will come back.
And you don't throw the fireplace out of the house when you install turbines, do you?

Why windmills? Why not go the whole hog and use Steorn perpetual motion machines. When we flood half of the West of Ireland and stick windmills everywhere the technology will be obsolete and we'd of destroyed our landscape. At least the Steorn idea (if it is real and works) at least won't kill our countryside.
