Indeed e.ON even says that this is impossible (I have placed the reference earlier).
If the "salesmen" are a respected group of individuals who have put a lot of time in & are promoting what would be a very good idea if it can be made to work, I'm for listening to what they have to say.
At the end of the day if we as a country buy into this it will be on the basis the people concerned have made their case and the powers that be have decided that their case is a good one.

You used a very important word in your reply to riven listening. Back at the start of the summer, S of I went public with a vision of Irish energy independence and asked for a response.

We are still receiving opinions, from private individuals and companies to state organisations. Some of these responses are directly to S of I and some take the form of action, the forthcoming Electricity Storage Seminar sponsored by SEI in a few weeks to local communities doing their due diligence on forming co ops to join the S of I initiative.

And we have been listening to friend and foe alike and the initial project we will finally present in a few weeks will have been influenced to a large extent by the responses we have received.

The concept of combining wind + pumped hydro into a single end product is a very flexible tool to have in the national arsenal for the interesting times ahead.

And the ability of a national commitment to build a complete renewable energy industry, to rejuvenate our economy, is so powerful that it must be done.
    Regards, Pat Gill

"we have decided to wait until after Lisbon to release our developed proposal."

    Why?

Because we are behind schedule, still waiting on some research to come back, there are some new developments coming from the EU on renewable energy, and until Lisbon is out of the way nobody will pay a blind bit of notice.

Have you tried getting Pat Kenny to feature you on his new show? He was once an engineer, he might be interested.

I believe he mentioned S of I on his radio show today, he is a fan of the idea and I hope we can count on his support.
There are a few new developments in Ireland and Europe on the way which may affect the timing and cost of the project, we shall see.

The first is an electricity storage seminar, sponsored by SEI in the RDS in a few weeks and there are rumours that the EU will make electricity storage systems a priority technology for support. The energy commisioner will be in Dublin in a few weeks, he may tell us then.

Sounds promising. The next problem will be selling the idea of storing seawater inland. You will need to keep it simple, possibly look at some of the lakes that are already connected to the sea and see if they can be used as an example to alleviate the fears of those who will be against the basic idea.

A saltwater lake, it happens in nature where a river flows into a depression and water can only leave by evaporation, thereby leaving its natural salt content behind, over time you get a salt water lake.

There are many examples throughout the world. But the bikinis are skimpier in the south of france
