    An bord pleanála

Is it a luxury we can no longer afford in these recessionary times? In recent months it has rejected two major development plans by Mr Sean Dunne. Now whatever your views about Mr Dunne, he is man with a reputation for getting things done and these two projects would have generated thousands of badly needed jobs in the construction sector.

I get the impression that an bord pleanála is staffed by sandal and tweed jacket wearing old fogies who are quite out of touch with the very real problems ordinary people are facing.

it's not and Dunner is no hero. His ballsbridge scheme was overblown nonsense. He knew it, his advisers knew it and ABP knew it. The only clowns who didn't know it were the DCC planners. ABP have a reputation for making decisions based on proper planning pribniples and in an environment where the tendency of LAs to grant is stronger than ever they are more of a necessity than ever. Job creation is not a valid reason to grant.

Move on. Nothing to see here.

You're clearly a FF or FG councillor from the West of Ireland.

Oh, demonise all the developers, let the country go down the tubes and while the rest of us all eat grass the tweedy Bord Pleanala types can admire the beautiful scenery.

What? D4 Hotels are "beaustiful scenery"? News to me... and brownfield abandoned factories are beautiful scenery too? And the North wall?

The reason the country is going down the tubes is because of people like you. You, the development industry, the greedy slimy vandals and your political buddies and cronies./ You're the reason we;re in this mess. Now ******************** off

That you have this impression says more about you than it does ABP. Those thousands of jobs in the construction sector wouldn't be required if Sean Dunne and others hadn't overcooked the construction sector causing those construction workers to be out of work.

Just because a proposal might involve the temporary creation of some jobs is not a good enough reason in itself to grant a planning application. Nuclear power plants require huge construction efforts should we build on of those on Sean's site?
Dan Sullivan. I was back but we still couldn't all have a vote.

I agree they have failed us badly over the past years.

ct, none of the blame in that article is aimed at ABP.The poor planning they are referring to is the blight of our countryside by one-off housing and piecemeal development, somethinf promoted by the likes of Phinaeus and stemmed somewhat by the activities of ABP.
