well was on the way to the pub half way through it and no one seemed to pay a blind bit of notice to it in my area.

TBH i think the whole thing was handled badly as even i only heard about the thing the day before it was due to happen and i fairly OD on news.

looks to me like the aussies and the orientals had a better go of it.

kinda reminds me of "no car day". the way we do these things if you didnt know it was meant to be happening you'd never notice.

Sweetness and light! That was last night at 8:30??

Ah, yes, I didn't turn off my lights. Shame on me.
Oops, I was actually working on something at that time. Hard to do metal work in the dark.
Mind you, only three lights aren't CFL's.

    THE AUSTRALIAN
AN unplanned, involuntary and more chaotic version of Earth Hour was forced upon Sydney's CBD and eastern suburbs yesterday afternoon when blackouts plunged 70,000 houses and businesses into darkness.

Some might even suggest the blackouts were more successful than Sydney's Earth Hour efforts.
While 50 per cent of Sydneysiders are believed to have switched off their lights for one hour on Saturday night, yesterday's blackouts went for 2 1/2 hours and enjoyed a much higher take-up rate in affected areas.

Hitting about 4.45pm, the blackouts extended from Circular Quay, where the Opera House was forced to cancel performances, to Redfern and Chippendale, affecting some buildings more than others with seemingly arbitrary logic.

While some found themselves completely without power others were unaffected.

Eastern suburbs such as Coogee, Dover Heights and Bondi Junction reported power losses, while pockets of Paddington, Rose Bay and Darlinghurst were also affected.

EnergyAustralia yesterday said faults on four major power cables were to blame for the outages.
This is a better way to do it ! More impact.
Had we a lad on here "Rock of Cashel" who has been in darkness for some time !
