No time to waste on going nuclear

Yesterday William Reville the IT Science writer suggested in this article that we need to make a decision soon about going Nuclear and if we do so we will cut our CO2 emissions by 16%. I agree with him the sooner we plan to get a Nuclear Plant up and running the better.

I completely agree. THere is already a nuclear plant in France we could connect to.

We also need to be using wind farms and wave farms as well.

Uranium is a non-renewable fuel that we would need to import.
The spent fuel is the main ingredient for nuclear weapons.
When pricing a unit of nuclear energy, are you pricing in the thousands of years of secure storage of spent fuel, as well as the power plant itself?

Why don't we get up to our full capacity with wind, wave and tide, then see to we really need more.

Anyone in favour of building a nuclear power station, please indicate how far from your house it would have to be.
If there is a future, it will be Green.

I hadn't thought of that. The waste must have a good resale value.

Scaremongering of the highest order. Typical Green!

They could build it in my garden if they want! Modern nuclear power stations are incredibly safe and scare mongering of this type is disgusting.

Senator Fergal Quinn also writes about this in today's Irish Times Business Section. I believe the East West connector will give us access to nuclear generated electricity. The Quinn article seemed a bit hot and heavy on the subject of savings from purchases of emissions credits. Not sure who did his sums for him..

There is no time to waste indeed. The best place IMO is Donegal, there is suspected Uranium deposits there. Also it is not densely populated. If and its a big if, if an accident were to happen the gulf stream would blow the waste north-eastwards away from the island. Also EDF could send in technicians to train up the people in the local IT in Letterkenny. I am assuming EDF would build it as they are the best. Also Killybegs port has been modified, fuel can be brought through there.

What would that cut global emmissions by? .0000000000000000000003%?
