It sounds like a good idea - cheaper electricity for the consumer. My problem with BGE is that their function is to distribute natural gas, not to generate electricity. They did not build their power plant for nothing so gas users paid for it. Are they charging higher prices for gas to subsidise their electrical operation?
If engineers were wrong as often as economists, would anyone fly aeroplanes?
well this is an in for some foreign company
esb has been closing a lot of old big plants, so there room for new smaller ones.
bord gas is already buying windpower off the market.

Nowhere on the website (https://www.thebigswitch.ie/) as far as I can see, does it give details of their pricing structure.
Just vague small print:
And examples of typical households...Guaranteed minimum savings of 10%* off ESB rates
* The discount stated is off the applicable ESB domestic tariff unit rate and applies to the first year's consumption. Thereafter the Bord Gáis Energy standard discount tariff will apply which is guaranteed to be at least 5% below ESB unit rates for years two and three of this offer. Terms and conditions apply.

How about actual costs per unit, standing charges, etc?
Apparently bord gais signed up 3,700 customers yesterday.
- pretty impressive given the above.
they have stated they will be at least 10% (5% after year one) cheaper than the ESB, so if the ESB reduce by 10% then your rate will be 10% cheaper than a ESB customer, there are no standing charges or PSO (abolished i believe) so it should simply be 10% less than you currently pay / the ESB rate is, plus there is an additional 2% discount for DD payment.....
we signed up today, as quick calcuations showed savings in excess of 300 euros per annum...... better in my pocket than the ESB's
