Two children should be limit, says green guru: Sunday Times

Jonathon Porritt, who chairs the government’s Sustainable Development Commission, says curbing population growth through contraception and abortion must be at the heart of policies to fight global warming. He says political leaders and green campaigners should stop dodging the issue of environmental harm caused by an expanding population.
A report by the commission, to be published next month, will say that governments must reduce population growth through better family planning.
“I am unapologetic about asking people to connect up their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate,” Porritt said.
“I think we will work our way towards a position that says that having more than two children is irresponsible. It is the ghost at the table. We have all these big issues that everybody is looking at and then you don’t really hear anyone say the “p” word.”

Porritt, a former chairman of the Green party, says the government must improve family planning, even if it means shifting money from curing illness to increasing contraception and abortion.
This is the inevitable conclusion from Green policies but it is the first time I have seen it articulated in this manner. Do the Irish Green Party stand over these sentiments?

The Green Party has always favoured abortion and contraception.
Isn't it in the Programme for Government?
Maybe it's in the secret protocols.

At some point people will realise that Green policy is more eugenicist than it is gaian in its outlook and realise human politicisation of nature and the environment is a contradiction in terms.

Yes, green alignment is contradictory to prevention of natural selection and prevention of things natural is contradictory to being a "green".

It's a fairly logical conclusion of environmentalism that there are too many humans on the planet.

errm, Ireland is underpopulated (as are Russia, Canada, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe)....should this not be considered on a regional basis??

Having said that, as an ex resident, I found the UK uncomfortably overcrowded. Selfish, I know, but wide open spaces with few people are hard enough to come by south of Manchester.
