Cllr Killian at odds with Strategic Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area

It seems that Councilor Nick Killian is in favour of putting a large business park into the tiny village of Kilbride Co. Meath, that he claims could provide 700 jobs

A motion to contravene the County Development Plan was passed by the councilors to enable the proposed development.

Bord pleanala turned the proposal down stating as follows

"The site of the proposed business park is located in the rural Hinterland Area of Greater Dublin, remote from those substantial parts of County Meath zoned, in the Meath County Development Plan 2007-2013, for this type of
development. The Regional Planning Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area
2004-2016 state that future development in the Hinterland Area must be
strongly directed into designated primary and secondary development centres
and that, outside such designated centres, the only permissible development
should be that related to local need.
    "

Cllr Killian at odds with Strategic Guidelines for the Greater Dublin Area and has blamed an Taisce for shafting the project, even though his own party approved most of the policies that prevent such development

Have our councilors nothing better to do than drive a coach and four through our sensible planning policies?

as I've said a million times before - elected representatives, prone to influence and thinking only of votes - should not be let within an asses roar of the planning process. This is a bloody disgraceful piece of electioneering by Meath Coco, but I expect nothing more from the same organisation that molested their coastal villages, ran a motorway through Tara and allowed every hamlet, village and clachan explode in population terms with no jobsm no services and no facilities and no hope whatsoever of getting them

as for the councillro, AN TASICE HAVE NO POWER TO STOP ANYTHING !!! do they not udnerstand this simple fact??? The right decision was arrived at by an independent body

An Taisce, along with a number of local objectors, appealed the council’s decision
    your locals Councillors? Your people?

There's enough land zoned in this area for 5,000 jobs. Start building there and stop trying to get windfall contraventiosns for your sponsors

Another Fianna Fail Councillor involved in dubious planning? Will they never learn?

Rubbish. Elected representatives should be allowed to represent their constituents. If they make a mess of it, they shouldn't be re-elected. Is that not what guidelines and acts are for? Having a motion refused on the basis of it being fundamentally opposed to the planning legislation smacks of political nativity.

I don't know this particular Councillor or even what party is his from but if An Bord (you are naive if you associate the word independent with them) go against you, it doesn't necessarily make it wrong.

It goes against all sensible policy. The legacy of councillors in planning is utterly shameful. Either train yerselves to know right from wrong or stay away from decisions. This was a disgusting appllpciation. Click the link

He had his say when he adopted the development plan

He had his say when he adopted the development plan that required that development be channeled into large serviced centers. hi was recently chairman of Meath County Council.

Such a strategy does limit the amount of zoned development land for industry

A cynic might suggest that such a clause limits the amount of zoned land to the advantage of the strokers with the political influence to push through contravention motions.

It is sickening that he would blame an Taisce for enforcing the Guidelines and policies he and his party drafted and put in place.
