Ol Mother Nature might well provide this years spectacular if reports from America turn out to be accurate...

Scientists are monitoring a cluster of earthquakes that have rattled Yellowstone National Park over the past few days amid concerns that a larger earthquake could be brewing.'

De Beeb (still one of the UK's best exports) produced a two part special effects extravaganza about 3 years ago.... well worth watching if one can download it. It came with a documentary about how scientists are predicting the thing would blow if it did blow, if you see what I mean

The bad news: if she blows, there will be no more jet flights for decades; the ash jams jet engines

The not so good news: nuclear winter style effects, along with acid rain and widespread crop failure

the slightly better but still not good news: say goodbye to global warming; the ash plume will take care of that.

The torygraph, predictably, got the date of the last eruption wrong, I think, the supervolcano that blew 70000 years ago was Tambora, in Indonesia. Yellowstone is supposed to blow every 200 million years and the last eruption was about 200 million years ago

A recent new Scientist article did suggest that the eruptions are declining in intensity with time and that the magma pool under Yellowstone is gradually cooling.

    I hope they weren't wrong.

Yep, when it goes, you won't need the News to tell you, you'll hear it.

There's a big one due near Naples too, in a place that is heavily inhabited, it will kill tens of thousands.

You're right digout if the volcano on the canaries was to erupt(dormant for eons BUT) the tsunami would wipe out the west coast of the USA and the back wash would seriously affect the west of Ireland.
