Gormley says Ryan should meet Shell to Sea

John Gormley says Eamon Ryan should meet Shell to Sea and discuss the issues which led to the protests including an eleven day hunger strike by a local retired teacher.
    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/break ... 79028.html

The hunger strike ended today after Shell withdrew its pipe laying from Irish waters, the main demand of Maura Harrington.

Erin Brockovich, the campaigner who was played by Julia Roberts in an Oscar-winning film, urged Shell to reroute a the gas pipeline when she discussed the issue with John Gormley, who, it seems, talks of little else these days.

This the royal "we" is it?

What would be the point of the Minister meeting with S2S? They represent no local area or interest group? Politically, too, they're not exactly worth meeting. Not to mention, it's a done deal - the gas is going to be coming ashore.
Why must the media treat these people as if they're somehow worth talking to? When those Global Warming "activists" broke into the grounds of Heathrow Airport and clambered onto a plane some months ago, the media didn't turn them into darlings worth public attention. Same calibre of protest. Same calibre of disconnect with reality.

I'm not even going to delve further into how disgusting it is for a former teacher and role model for children to advocate and undertake an excercise as wasting and pointless as a hunger strike. She should be ashamed of herself.

Shell would take billions from the country if they renege on a contract like this. The minister should give them short shrift.

Gormley is trying to be a McDowell - in & out of govt. at the same time. If times get too tough, the Greens will want an excuse to leave govt.
If engineers were wrong as often as economists, would anyone fly aeroplanes?

Given that they stayed in when they knew the Taoiseach was a liar...I am wondering what excuse will they need.

If their reason to leave is tied up with S2S then their electorate will desert them. It'd be like finding out mid-journey that your taxi driver is retarded.
