    Gormley restricts campaign spending for 2009 local elections

    See press release here. How warranted is such a move, do you think?

    Excellent.
    Might help limit the amount of crap I see on telegraph polls.

    Yeah, this is the sort of thing the Greens would never have thought of doing before they got into power.

    True. Think the limit was about 30K for a four seater last time. I wonder if a political party received money and then subsequently called it a loan....oh wait a second....hasn't this been done and isn't there a tribunal.

    look if people want to blow €50k on a crappy council seat that is their business, just because the Greens will never be in a position to do, should mean that they should not try stopping others from doing in.

    Actually I am in favour of election spending limits, but they have to be realistic.
    Not in favour of banning posters or leaflets as they are fundamental to new candidates and that is what we need more of on all sides.
