    HOME

We are living in exceptional times. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, avert the depletion of natural resources and the catastrophic evolution of the Earth's climate.

The stakes are high for us and our children. Everyone should take part in the effort, and HOME has been conceived to take a message of mobilization out to every human being.

For this purpose, HOME needs to be free. A patron, the PPR Group, made this possible. EuropaCorp, the distributor, also pledged not to make any profit because Home is a non-profit film.

HOME has been made for you : share it! And act for the planet.

    Yann Arthus-Bertrand
film about state of planet released in over 50 countries for World Envioronmental day June 5th

More than a movie, HOME will be a major event all over the globe : for the first time ever, a film will be released on the same day in over 50 countries and on every format : movie theatres, TV, DVD and Internet.

On June 5th we all have a date with the planet !

Ironically, and extremely sadly, while we were watching the free screening of this film in Barcelona, indigenous people from Peru were being murdered by police as they stood in defense of their lands, the Peruvian Amazon, which has been privitized and sold off (from 13% to 70% in 2 years). Which means more and more of the planets lungs get cut out, which further affects the climate crisis we are only starting to feel the beginnings of (how many days of rain in Ireland this summer, same time, Spain is on fire...)
Full report on that horrific attack, which resulted in more than 60 deaths here:

    hi, point is:

In relation to the initial post of this thread:

Since there's so many threads started on this topic, making it nigh on impossible to follow them and leading to large amounts of repetition, I thought it would be best to start a stickied thread on the Climate Change/Global warming issue, for all those who would like to discuss whether it is true or not, the arguments in favour and against, etc. This can thus serve as the definitive thread on the issue and all relevant information, developments and views can be posted here.
I included information about the massive event which happened last 5th of June, the global screening of the film HOME

    A hymn for the planet

HOME is an ode to the planet's beauty and its delicate harmony. Through the landscapes of 54 countries captured from above, Yann Arthus-Bertrand takes us on an unique journey all around the planet, to contemplate it and to understand it. But HOME is more than a documentary with a message, it is a magnificent movie in its own right. Every breathtaking shot shows the Earth - our Earth - as we have never seen it before. Every image shows the Earth's treasures we are destroying and all the wonders we can still preserve. "From the sky, there's less need for explanations". Our vision becomes more immediate, intuitive and emotional. HOME has an impact on anyone who sees it. It awakens in us the awareness that is needed to change the way we see the world. (HOME embraces the major ecological issues that confront us and shows how everything on our planet is interconnected.)
Im not sure if there was free screenings in Dublin, in Barcelona there was, like there was in 50 + other countries around the world at same time...

The point is, which this thread supports in parts, is that the "climate crisis" "global Warming"... what ever you want to call it, is finally becoming accepted as a reality. This is a big step, as for a long time, it was laughed away by mainstream culture as "loony lefty", "tree hugging hippies" and the like..

We are still far from a true understanding by the majority of society as to the level of trouble we are facing, but, little by little we are getting there. A good example of how communities are re-acting, or, positively preparing for change are the 2 interconnected movements, both of which are growing rapidly, and virally around planet; transition movement and climate camp (ireland will hold its first such event this august)

The reference to the goings on in Peru, was just an aside, which was a sad reality. But it outlines how all this "climate stuff" is interconnected; communities being exploited (peru, rossport + many more), natural resources and ecosystems (that delicate system which allows us live) are being hacked away and burned up, cut up and traded for short term economic profit with the long term effects of worsening the climate situation, and or possibly pushing things into the danger zone (2 degree increase in global temperature and we will enter vicious feedback loop in which things will spiral out of control... IE, Ireland, the all day rain for all summer is nothing to the storms, floods etc, youll face soon, not mentioning the millions of climate refugees, broken economic, political world... )

anyway, i suppose, last post was just initial input to the "games" as it was put by original poster...

See yez in midlands in mid-august for climate camp

Enjoy your adventure on this odd little planet.

Long debate ended over cause, demise of ice ages – solar and earth wobble – CO2 not main driver

CORVALLIS, Ore. – A team of researchers says it has largely put to rest a long debate on the underlying mechanism that has caused periodic ice ages on Earth for the past 2.5 million years – they are ultimately linked to slight shifts in solar radiation caused by predictable changes in Earth’s rotation and axis.

In a publication to be released Friday in the journal Science, researchers from Oregon State University and other institutions conclude that the known wobbles in Earth’s rotation caused global ice levels to reach their peak about 26,000 years ago, stabilize for 7,000 years and then begin melting 19,000 years ago, eventually bringing to an end the last ice age.

The melting was first caused by more solar radiation, not changes in carbon dioxide levels or ocean temperatures, as some scientists have suggested in recent years.

“Solar radiation was the trigger that started the ice melting, that’s now pretty certain,” said Peter Clark, a professor of geosciences at OSU. “There were also changes in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels and ocean circulation, but those happened later and amplified a process that had already begun.”

You should read more than the first half of the article

'Sometime around now, scientists say, the Earth should be changing from a long interglacial period that has lasted the past 10,000 years and shifting back towards conditions that will ultimately lead to another ice age – unless some other forces stop or slow it. But these are processes that literally move with glacial slowness, and due to greenhouse gas emissions the Earth has already warmed as much in about the past 200 years as it ordinarily might in several thousand years, Clark said.

“One of the biggest concerns right now is how the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets will respond to global warming and contribute to sea level rise,” Clark said. “This study will help us better understand that process, and improve the validity of our models.”

    Never mind, keep searching!

'Cloud ship' scheme to deflect the sun's rays is favourite to cut global warming

Check the comments - people know that water vapor is a more potent greenhouse gas and are saying it!

Eh, ya everybody knows that. Is that somehow news to you and how does that, in any way, debunk man-made global warming?
