You can not claim that "nobody ever said the US drought was caused by human caused climate change", because it is clear that alarmists on this thread did, alarmists on various blogs did and some alarmist "scientists" did.
They'll continue to make fools of themselves, it's what they do best.

Many of the worst droughts occurred between 1920 & 1960, including the notorious "yo-yo drought" in Syria in 1933.

Muslim clerics thought that the drought was cause by the yo-yo craze at the time. The up-and-down yo-yo motion interferred with prayers going to heaven. The government of the new Republic of Syrian dutifully rounded up all the yo-yo's.

Perhaps we will look back at the doom-mongering activists as a modern version of these mad mullahs.

Here is last year's programme. Find me one "sceptical" or contrarian lecture or talk from a respected figure that diverges in a significant way from the accepted consensus on AGW due to CO2.

Why, its Professor Phil Jones! - apparently without the horns and cloven hooves.

And CRU [Climate Research Unit, University of East Anglia] is teaming up with an Oxford Professor ... not bad, not bad at all.

The award of Fellowships of the American Geophysical Union last year.

And look who's first up - Professor Michael Mann of Penn State University, being honoured by his peers.

    Has Freeman Dyson been told?

I think that we have gone through this truth business before. Did you fail to notice that in neither of those was it said that the drought in the USA was caused by human action. Or did you notice and?

The bizarre alliance between supposedly "secular" libertarians and Christian fundamentalists against science.

"Libertarians against free enquiry"? Apparently so.

... the primary political framework for climate change denialism is Libertarianism, with a lot of overlap with Tea Partiers, who are essentially Libertarians Without Brains.

Libertarians can’t live with the fact that their philosophy guarantees the misery and horrors of climate change so most of them (but not all) exist in full denial.

At the same time, christian fundies are against climate change science because they are against science. Fundamentalist and Atheist Libertarians overlap in the area of climate science denialsim, and it is often strange to see that
Note Republican Congressman Joe Barton denying CO2-driven change because Noah's Flood was climate change too. Barton is up over his ass in fossil fuel corporate funding.

Martin Hoerling of NOAA on a Google "Hangout" in 2011.

“A heat wave itself - most of it is due to natural variability. But that extra little step to record proportions pushing over a prior threshold is what climate change is doing. It’s adding an edge to that heat wave.”

How confident is Hoerling in his statement that there’s an 80 percent chance record highs being set are due to climate change?:

“[It’s] a strong statement and a defensible scientific statement,” he said.

Prediction by two NOAA scientists - summer Arctic Ice gone within 40 years.

James Overland of NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory and Muyin Wang of the NOAA Joint Institute for the Study of Atmosphere and Ocean at the University of Washington, looked at three methods of predicting when the Arctic will be nearly ice free in the summer. The work was published recently online in the American Geophysical Union publication Geophysical Research Letters.

Taken together, the range among the multiple approaches still suggests that it is very likely that the timing for future sea ice loss will be within the first half of the 21st century, with a possibility of major loss within a decade or two.

    That's a racing certainty.
