An Taisce slaps down Healy Rae. NB for all Gombeen Cllrs.

Michael Healy Rae seems to have picked on the wrong woman in An Taisce's Eanna Ní Lamhna.

I can't understand how this parody of a politician continues to get elected. The understanding of environmental issues displayed by his comments are extraordinary for an elected representative.

It's the gombeen voters that causes gombeen councillors. The Healy Raes of this world are a symptom.

I agree... we get the politicians we deserve, and under an electoral system such as ours we certainly get the ones we desire.

Public reps like the Healy Raes are nothing but environmental thugs. They have spent 80 years tearing the arse out of this country under the guise of "divilipmint for di yung peepil of di conety". The sooner this generation of politicians is gone the better. He and his type are costing us billions every year in added fuel costs, childminder costs, time due to congestion, faeces filled water supplies, lakes and rivers, and the disgusting assault on the landscape. His coterie of neanderthalesque gombeens are a threat to the environment and a threat to the prosperity of the state.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

Again... they are elected, you know? The buck stops with the electorate. Until we move on from a ring road mentality then we'll keep getting ...short-sighted... representatives.

    So true!

But they won't go on their own, anyone who suffers from any of the above should one, quit voting the same ppl in and two, get up off their asses and make sure everyone knows their are other options!

Does it matter what the electorate do? If you were against the Tara motorway, then the party to vote for at the election was the Greens.

And we all know how that turned out.

That's true, yet a bit simplistic bryan.
If the electorate approached elections with more intelligence and independence of thought, the gombeenenom would be significantly reduced, imho.
