Little bit of an open-and-shut debate, surely? Or will there be blame apportionment?

Usually at these things, people don't speak exactly on the motion. As far as I know, Colm McCarthy will oppose.

IMHO a slightly strange topics as the horse has definitely bolted when its comes to planning in Ireland, we are already paying the price of poor planning. See the European Environmental Agency report on this, they now recommend Dublin as the model to avoid for Eastern European Countries.

I also find it slightly strange that the Greens are involved in such a debate now that they are in Government. Surely they would be better served in preparing their input into the Dublin Transport Authority Bill which should be published soon?

I don't think the price which will be paid is limited to young people. I think everybody will end up paying the price for arse-ways urban planning in Ireland.

Realistically we have one of the lowest population densities in the EU while the country feels like it's congested and over crowded. The reason? Urban sprawl.

We could have twice the density we have now and function twice as well as we do now had any sort of thought gone into planning our urban landscape. Instead we devoured greenfields with low density semi-detached housing estates and poxy little low rise apartment buildings nobody would want to live in for any extended period of time.

The price will be paid by limits on our economic growth, we can pack more people in but we're driving industry further away from our homes, creating inhumae commuting times. But also limiting the amount of people our infrastructure can sustain.
    A poster of some consequence...

The first image is a view of Ennis, with the 'Cliff of Ennis' in the background. The river Fergus is there somewhere in the foreground. The second image is the continuation to the east of the first image - panning right - the river has flooded between the town and the bypass to the east. Perhaps little to do with planning or everything to do with lack of forestation? Images taken with mobile phone last week.

Lack of forestation is usually corrected by planting trees. They do that in other countries...
