The only way to change the world is to win elections.
My reading of it was that it'll only apply to new cars from next June. Cars registered before that will just have the 9.5% or 11.5% tax hike. the VRT reform will drop the cost of Diesel cars probably to that of an equivalend petrol.Originally Posted by White Horse
in the case of the Zafira, the 1.8 petrol will cost €600 a year to tax, the 1.9D will cost €430. the VRT rates will be 24% and 28% for Diesel and Petrol respectively .
See rates below...
VRT
Then it is unworkable and will achieve nothing. People will not be incentivised to purchase cars with lower emissions, they are now encouraged to keep the cars they have.Originally Posted by EoinMn

Cradle to grave, that's far greener than buying a new car every few yearsOriginally Posted by Sligoboy
Eh no, at the very best it will hold our present carbon emmisions stagnant. Not lower them.Originally Posted by Victor Meldrew

Just checked my car.. Ford Mondeo Diesel 115bhp TdCi, 2004.
154 grammes per Km. That makes me a Band C or E290 if it was a new car.
However as mine is a 2004 car I will continue to pay 560 + 9.5% increase.
Well done mr. gormleyE350 reduction for new car versus my car.
Remind me to vote for one of your colleagues next time.![]()
