Shell2Sea block Minister from participating in UCD debate

Shell2sea campaigners tonight have stopped Communications Minister Eamon Ryan from speaking at a UCD debate, they prevented him from entering a UCD building and then formed a circle around him.

Update @ 9.20 From speaking to people tonight, it would appear about 40 protesters threatened the Communications Minister, saying if he participated with the debate, they would disrupt it.

    More soon
They should have held the debate at lunchtime. No Shell to Sea campaigner ever gets out of bed until after 3pm.

Where were the Gardaí? One of our Minsiters being obstructed like this is a disgrace. If Shell2Sea were so confident in their position, they wouldn't have to resort to low tactics like this.

Where do you think? Probably over in Bellanaboy, a couple of hundred strong, 'defending' two diggers and a junior Shell-Ireland executive....

Bit of an over reaction. Surely UCD security would be more appropriate than the Gardai.

This is the sort of play-acting that fools protestor types into believing they're getting places when really they're not. Reclaim the streets blocked a few streets a few years ago but of course it made zero impact on the number of people who actually use cars. If these people think they have a point, they should put that point through democratic means instead of engaging in thuggery like this.

If I knew something like this was going to happen I would have stayed for the debate rather then gone home.

If nothing else this proves what as bunch of nut jobs Shell to Sea are.
