Council signs contract for Poolbeg incinerator

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2007/0905/incinerator.html

Dublin City Council has signed a contract to operate the Poolbeg incinerator even though An Bord Pleanála has yet to give the go ahead.

The move also comes despite criticism of incinerator projects by Environment Minister John Gormley.

Dublin City Council described the signing of the contracts as another major milestone.

It says the plant at Poolbeg in Minister Gormley's constituency will provide heating and electricity for more than 100,000 homes.

The plant would also burn 600,000 tons of waste each year.

Green Party TD for Dun Laoghaire Ciarán Cuffe said he was concerned that council officials were attempting to pre-empt An Bord Pleanála's decision by making financial commitments and guarantees before approval for the plant has even been granted.

jeez! Do you think it might be refused? Will it fck.
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

We're awaiting Minister Gormley's statement that, as contracts have been signed, he can't retrospectively legislate to invalidate the "put or pay" clause in that particular contract.

It's all down now to the planning process.

Or: Tara 2. FF have discovered how to handle JG; hand him a fait accompli, and sit back and laugh as the GP says how angry it is.

Just what is Green about this programme for Govt? What Fianna Ghlas is learning, and too late, is that you need an ethos, policies, and moral backbone.

I think an incinerator is a damn fine idea, surely burning our waste in a high tech facility and getting heat and energy form it is better than burying it in giant holes in the ground?.
The square root of the golden ratio times pi is close to 4, this product is 3.996168.
