I thought this happened a couple of years ago? I certainly remember reading something about the English parliament redesignating a huge area of coastal waters for just this reason in 2005.

Oh, and I've moved this to the Environment forum, as it doesn't belong in Current Affairs.

If the stuff about the oil and the deception of the UK government is true then I don't know how any Scottish person could be against independence.

PS Did anyone notice the Anglo accents on the presenters on 'Reporting Scotland'? must be their equivalent of the D4 accent

Yes, they were running scared that Scotland would break away. so they put it out that the oil wasn't worth much!

Thet claim theyre half way through the oil, but with the rising price of oil that doesnt mean theyre half way through what the oil is worth.
Add to that the fact that they are planning to dump their nuclear waste in scotland and you can understand why support for independence is growing rapidly.
The SNP really have their head screwed on and no scottish unionist party has a chance of playing down the benefits of scottish independence,
Even though the majority of scots in westminster voted against the dumping of nuclear waste in their own country, the majority of english representitives voted for the dumping, so its going ahead.
    Now thats democracy!

There is going to be hate campaign against them in the media from now on, they'll need a lot of activists. have they got many people on the ground?

The unionist establishment in Scotland is running scared. Everyone accepts that oil does provide wealth. UK gov't has sapped it for 30 years. Barnett formula of subsidies for Scots was a sop to the revenue going south.

Norway is the example for the benefit of oil. In international law Scotland has rightful claim over its reserves. UK Gov't know this hence desperation and scare mongering tactics in the media.

SNP are doing a good job in Holyrood and can only build on this if they continue.

Then why is support for Scottish independence still a negligible 30%?

And why is support for Scottish independence higher in England than in Scotland?

Please stick to facts and not propoganda.

Depends what poll you choose to look at, doesn't it.

Recent polls at the run up to the election have put the support for Independence at 51%, more substantive than your 30%.

The SNP are in power, albeit a minority gov't - this is fact. However, their approval rating has shot up since taking office - they're doing a good job. The last herald poll a couple of weeks ago asked Scots do you think independence is inevitable? A not insignificant 60% said YES!

Not just propaganda. If you want to be educated do some research on our-scotland.org. There is propaganda there, but also a lot of fact.
