Article not online yet.Hard-pressed homeowners are facing bills of at least €300 to cover the cost of having a water meter installed, it was reported today.
A report in today's Sunday Times stated that the Government will not pay for buying and installing the meters, but will instead pass on the charge to householders in an effort to save funding for local authorities.
The article also states that householders may have to pay a annual "rental" fee for the meter.
Friends of mine live in Gort. The tap water is yellow. You cant drink it. With a new baby they had to fork out on an expensive
filtration system. The water has been like this for nearly 10 years. Now they want to charge for water which you cant drink from the tap!!
Also other parts of south galway and ennis they have to use bottled water. This has been going on for 5 years or more.
So the agrument that we cant fund water repairs is bollox. Alot of these issues were there during the boom and are legacy issues.
Alot of people around me and in rural ireland do/will and are beginning to sink wells and have small group schemes.
Others use rain water. Do they honestly expect people to pay a tax on water that falls from the sky?!
Someone explain again what the household charge and future property tax are for?!
Because i was under the silly impression that these monies go to found local services!!
