How do you know they were used "successfully"?

The machines were used, a result was given, and that was that.

The result was never verified. Why? Because it wasn't possible to verify the result, because there was no audit trail.

The machines were used in 3 constituencies in 2002, when FG were wiped out.

Imagine if the machines had been used for the first time in all constituencies in 2002, where the FG seat count was halved.

Would FG have had any recourse for a recount, or a recheck, based on a verifiable audit trail? No.

    Chaos would have ensued.
