so your tree was culled then was it, it would have been more educational to say that up front

It was one tree for every family rather than for every person and I think that it was perfectly correct to manage the forests like any other. The aim from the start was to plant some native forests and thinning out the weak trees is a part of that.
Meanwhile over the last 10 years how many native trees have been cut down to make way for shoe box estates?

I have always thought it was mad that you need planning permission to build a house, but not to destroy a woodland (and that many farmers/developers destroy the woodland before they apply for planning permission to avoid objections from people who think a little bit of biodiversity and public space might actually be a good thing.
Actual morality is doing what is right regardless of what you're told. Religious morality is doing what you're told, regardless of if it's right.

With the tiniest bit of foresight they could have planted an excess of trees to allow for this. You don't think they were doing it on the cheap, pulling the wool over our eyes?
Or maybe they'd already blown they're budget on the Spire, Clock, etc.
