EDF nuclear security staff jailed for spying on Greenpeace France
A French court has jailed two employees of energy giant EDF and has also jailed two other men working for a security firm hired by EDF, all for spying on Greenpeace campaigners.
A court in Nanterre, near Paris, found that EDF employed security firm Kargus to spy on Greenpeace as it campaigned against new reactors in France.
The court also sent two Kargus employees to jail and handed Greenpeace 500,000 euros (£428,000) in damages
The Kargus chiefs at the time of this episode were ex French Secret Service. EDF owns British Energy which operates eight nuclear plants in the UK and is seeking permission for more.
maybe the spies where just lonely
I knew a guy in uni who inflitrated greenpeace to meet women
apparenlty the ratio was 4 females to one male.
the catch was the quality of the females(poor)
It seems this spying was related to stopping a campagin against future planst
rather than related to nuclear plant security which would be a different matter
i.e. trying to stop greenpeace entering plants or disrupting transports
