    World Vegan Day Events

I heard about this event organised by Vegan Ireland and thought that some of you might like to take part.

Fun Hat Table Quiz for World Vegan Day

When is World Vegan Day? Who was the second man on the moon? These and other questions may be asked at Vegan Ireland’s Fun Hat Table Quiz on Nov 1st.

Fun Hat? Well it is Halloween, so dress up in a hat (or more) of your choice. The hat or headpiece can be bought or made but must be vegan. If you wear the best hat or win the table quiz, you’ll win a prize.

Platters of vegan food shall be served by Café en Seine and this is included in the entrance fee. Any money left over will go towards material for Vegan Ireland.

Please do RSVP so we have an idea of the numbers attending.

So start studying for the hotly contested title of World Vegan Day Fun Hat Table Quiz Champion.

I've never been that big a fan of Star Trek.
The Mahon Tribunal found Olivia Mitchell to have received an inappropriate payment from Frank Dunlop at the time of the 1992 Election. F.G. Gael has taken no action against her.

Ironic - Nimoy is supposed to be a vegan - and Shatner was/is a vegetarian for health reasons.

Idiot. Nobody kills calves. We fatten them up for about 2 years and then kill em.

I saw this today, from Bernie Wright, animal advocates...

With all of the negative news in the media, World Vegan Day on November 1st is an example of an ever-increasing group of people who do their utmost to both live compassionate lifestyles and to have a light footprint on the earths resources.

A major shift toward veganism is a significant step in effectively responding to the current food crises and other societal problems. Please consider:

    * At a time when food prices are soaring, when there have been recent food
riots in at least a dozen countries, when an estimated 20 million of the
world's people die annually due to hunger and its effects, over 70 percent
of the grain produced in the United States and over 40 percent of the grain
produced worldwide is fed to animals destined for slaughter.
It takes up to 16 pounds of grain in a feedlot to produce one pound of beef.

    * In a period of increasing droughts and with over half of the world's
people expected to be living in areas chronically short of water by the
middle of this century, it takes up to 14 times as much water to produce a
typical western animal-centered diet than a vegan diet.

    * While the world is heading toward an unprecedented catastrophe from global
warming, a 2006 UN Food and Agricultural Organization report indicated that
animal-based agriculture emits more greenhouse gases (in CO2 equivalents)
than all the world's cars, trucks, ships, planes and other means of
    transportation combined (18% vs. 13.5%).

Making the situation even more critical for each of the above issues, the
same UN FAO report projects a doubling in the amount of animal products
consumed globally in 50 years, and this would negate the effects of many
other positive changes that are currently being considered.

The most important factor is that the production and consumption of meat and other animal products violate human health. Veganism endeavours to treat animals with compassion, protect the environment, whilst conserving natural resources and helping hungry people.

Please Consider veganism as the compassionate and wisest choice for all of us. For more visit Vegan Ireland:
