If you are genuinely interested in the bog issue you should visit the FIE website

Yes their report to the EU is very saddening to read and the pictures really show what is truly happening. With regard to Bord na Mona I can't see them being exempt from the Environmental Liabilities Directive?

The bogs will grow again just like trees.
They won't. The conditions that prevailed over 20,000 and gave rise to the bogs years are unlikely to build up the bogs again anytime soon!

You are right; Govt withdraws amendment to turfcutters motion - RT News

The Government decided to let it pass unamended. Interesting little development. It will be interesting to see what comes of it.

Independent TD Michael Healy Rae said turfcutters do not want compensation and said the EU cannot tell Irish turfcutters where they can cut their turf.

Independent TD Mattie McGrath said the drums of rural Ireland are beating and will not stop.

I see the issue with raised bogs, but what is the fu*king point of trying to save blanket bogs?
