Windfarm noise problems , closure ?

Should this story from today's Telegraph make us a little more wary about dependence on wind turbines as a source of energy ?

And not just that, they're extremely ugly too and all over the place. At least with a Nuclear power plant you only need a couple so there's less light pollution but you can't escape the ugliness of the turbines.

I don't think they are ugly.

I don't think they are ugly either but I don't see why there were built near a populated area anyway.

They should be on the top of hills and the like surely.

As for them being ugly they are white in an almost constantly overcast skyline. I think they pretty much look normal and an expected sight having been to a few hills with them on them. I quite like seeing them as I know they are generating clean energy.

A neighbour of my Parents has built a small wind turbine. Their house is about a quarter of a mile from my parent's house but then the damn thing kicks off the noise is serioulsy irritating. It's not loud but produces a low level noise which you can almost feel rather than hear. Drives me insane. I can't imagine what its like with tens of hundreds of much bigger turbines going.

they need to be backed up by dirty energy.

ugliness is only a very minor minor issue. the problem is that not one dirty plant can be shut down as a result of a wind farm and in some cases extra dirty plant has to be built to accomodate the wind.

friend of mine has one in an extremely high and very windy area and its of a high spec and he tells me when you take into account its lifespan, maintenance initial cost etc its not worth having one. Dont be believing the grand designs hype with these babies that you'll have electricity bill free house and an addititional surplus in your bank account as well.

In that case, we should shut down cities.

CM, small turbines make more noise than big ones. The tipspeed gets closer to the speed of sound.
