Some people need to chill a bit. We are all going around in circles waiting this damned election to be called.

BTW it WON'T be called tonight. If there is an agreement on ending the nurses' strike Bertie will want that to be the lead story tomorrow, not an election campaign.

Anyway, by now the first editions of the papers will have been printed. He would get a right spanking from Eileen Gleeson if he called the election too late to get into the newspapers, for screwing up a media opportunity. Anyway, with the Tribunal starting on Monday with an outline of allegations, including against him, and with Owen O'Callaghan on the stand on Tuesday, if he calls an election before then he would look as though he was trying to distract attention from the claims or shut down the tribunals. He is in a no-win situation there. The allegations will be made anyway. It would be foolish to make it look as though he was trying to silence the allegations at this stage. His best option would be to make a denial of them after they have been made. So IMHO he would be extremely stupid to call an election any time between now and Wednesday. Everyone knows what is coming down the line so he should let it happen and then deal with it, not try to stop what everyone knows is coming, and generate the question 'what is he trying to hide?'
