The truth about Shell Oil in Mayo

Shell makes a weekly profit of 375 million

The cost of sending Shell to Sea is 360 million - less than one week's profit. And it can all be offset against the 1992 tax deal.

Noway's 'Oil Fund' has provided them with a pension fund of 47,000 per person.

Norway gains more out of our gas than we do.

We get left with the 'privilege' of buying our own gas back at full market rates. And Fianna Fail are the party who brought us to this. Eamon Dunphy is right when he says that what they have done amounts to treason.

Just think what our country could be. This is a political party without intelligence or conscience.

You expect the main parties to talk about this?
Don't you know Mayo is a key marginal?

Rather than a deafening silence, nobodys interested. You've told us nothing that hasn't been told before, on many threads. Sorry to burst your bubble.

And Norway did exactly what we did with Shell so that exploration could get kicked off .
Those who think they know it all upset those of us that do.........

Exactly? As in set up a Stat[e]oil company and pay hundreds of millions to explore for oil and gas?

Did the Norwegians get two corruptable cronies (lambs to the corporate bribers ) to set out their deals?

Against all the rules of public administration, Charles Haughey and Ray Burke met in secret, (without any other government representative present), with oil company representatives and concluded a deal the details of which are still not known to this day.

On the very same day, in January 1993, that subsequent legislation governing the issuing of exploration licences came into force, Enterprise Ireland applied for a license for the exploration of the Corrib field. Statoil, also on the same day, applied for four exploration licences. What amazing foresight they must have had - or perhaps they knew something the rest of us did not?

There are no bubbles to burst where this issue is concerned. Shell to Sea have had a vicious drubbing in the media during the recent months. It is entirely appropriate to bring the salient facts to people's attention in the weeks leading up to the election. So much guff has been talked about it, not least by certain posters on p.ie. and the corporate media's placemen such as Joe Duffy and Pat Kenny.

Enda Kenny has of course not acquitted himself well where this matter is concerned - he's right in there with the vested interests on this one. The people of Mayo are very cross with him.

And yes I would hope people had the honesty to discuss any subject that's relevant to this election. Everyone knows what is happening in Mayo is the worst economic scandal we have ever had - I'm sure FF party people would like this issue kept out of the debate, at any rate.

Meri's interest in this is proportional to the spin-opportunities for FG*. Unfortunately there's none so he can speak for our disinterest thoroughly impartially....

    * as opposed to the strange omission from that party's rip-off Ireland campaign of the waste of billions which could've gone to the development of the BMW region but instead will go mostly towards the social services of the people of Mo i Rana in Norway, large Shell shareholders and possibly Ayr in Scotland. Go Enda.
