Loath him or love him,you can't ignore him.
First Sarah Carey and now Mr Myers pointing out the ridiculous dichotomy in our energy strategy.
A sort of national game of Hokey Cokey.
On the one hand you threaten to jail turf cutters for destroying the environment but on the other hand you subsidise the burning of peat in our power stations. A sort of good peat ,bad peat policy. A bit like Anglo?
On the other hand you subsidise wind farms to produce intermittent power
while at the same time refusing to let the utilities even consider nuclear power.
What if research within the ESB comes to the conclusion that nuclear power should be considered as an option and their report has to be kept secret like some banned book in the Vatican.
Why are the people of Ireland being denied research which could have a big effect on the future of everyone. In a land of many madnesses this is the maddest of all.
As a skeptic on renewables but also wishing to be fair to everybody, I would be willing to concede that about 20% of our total energy could eventually come from wind,solar etc. If SoI can pull off the pumped storage plan then perhaps 30% could accrue from that source but at a very high cost.
The greens, on the other hand, will not give the nukeheads even the time of day: No! We're not having it! Forget about it! It won't happen!

Time for a sensible debate on the whole energy issue. Before it is too late

There is a growing group of mainstream commentators who see the government/Eamon Ryan national energy policy for what it is - a dangerous greenie whackjob fundamentalist's charter.

But surely, wind is the way forward? It certainly is -- forward to a winter in which the dolorous, the dim and the dumb die in the dark. Because if we'd depended on wind technology to stay warm last winter, we'd have all perished in the coldest spell in 150 years, during which there was more wind on the moon than here in Ireland.

Even if we could technically cover large tracts of land with enough turbines to make some small difference, what could that cost our tourist sector? I suspect a number of tourists prefer to see landscapes free of these monstrosities. They are already blighting hills around North Kerry, East Kerry and West Cork, and are visible from the Ring of Kerry road, the biggest moneyspinner around these parts. Scandalous.

Nobody, not even one ************************************g TD, is suggesting Ireland rely solely on windpower. Myers is a grade-A idiot if he thinks this. But he doesn't actually believes what he writes. He only writes this for money. It is the people who read Myers that need their head examined.

It looks more like yours is the strawman.


Where does Myers state "depended solely on wind power". You alone have used the word "solely".


The problem with electricity is if we depended on even 10% of our demand on windpower we would have had major problems.
