Dick Roche - caught lying. Again! (Galway Water issue)

Our ever efficient Minister for the Environment, Dick Roche, has generously given Galway City & County Councils "an additional" €1.1 million to help deal with their Water problem.

So concerned is the Minister with the Water problem in Galway, he has also given €1.8 million to Cork, €2 million to Limerick, and €2.1 million to Dublin.

Unfortunately, it isn't clear what these other Local Authorities are planning to do with the money that might benefit the people of Galway.

Mayor lashes Roche's €1.1m 'extra' for crisis
THE mayor of Galway has launched a stinging attack on the Environment Minister over his claim that €1.1m had been allocated to deal with the city's ongoing water crisis.

Mayor Niall O Brolchain, said the minister was playing politics with residents who had already been informed that emergency financial aid was going to alleviate the situation over a month ago.

Mr Roche issued a statement claiming an additional €1.1m package was being pumped into Galway, but its mayor claimed the cash was already allocated to the area.

    .....

I would go so far as to say this is a cynical attempt by Dick Roche to pull the wool over people's eyes. It's actually making me angry," said the Mayor last night.

"He is painting this as something new going to help Galway. It's the standard water allocations to local authorities. It something that was in the pipeline anyway," he said.

Mr O Brolchain pointed out that Dublin, Cork, Limerick and Waterford are all to get more than Galway's €1.1m under the scheme.

    .....

"When I met the Galway local authorities on March 30, I promised them additional financial help to deal with their current difficulties, and I am delivering on that promise," Mr Roche said.

    The boy can't help it!

Oh I'd watch that lad like a hawk!

Here's what he said in the Seanad at the time of the 2nd Nice referendum:

It is a disgraceful xenophobic myth that there will be a threat of a flood of migrant workers coming to Ireland. A wilful effort has been made by the National Platform and the No to Nice Campaign organisation to raise the spectre of a wave of immigrants coming to our shores. This is the worst and most unworthy objection I have heard to the Nice treaty; it is most "un-Irish" and speaks volumes about the level at which some are willing to conduct political debate. It is a shameful and distasteful piece of propaganda.
Xenophobic fears have been raised before. When Ireland was joining the EEC in 1973, the same National Platform warned of foreign skilled workers taking Irish jobs. False fears of mass movements of people at the time of previous enlargements were also raised, but, as we know from the Spanish and Portuguese enlargement, these fears did not materialise. There is no credible reason to believe enlargement will be accompanied by large movements of people. All the evidence points in the opposite direction.

hopefully the spat between the Wicklow Windbag and O'Brolchain will ensure no hope of a Green FF coalition, not that it was very likely anyway. Nice feature on Sky News about the issue earlier on too.

Also I was at the Bohs vs Galway match last night. Nice chants from the away of "You're even worse than our water" and "Cryptosporidium" all the way through. Good to see they can have a sense of humour about it..
We need to radically change every system that has enabled the wholesale destruction of the Irish landscape, rural and urban. There is no time for incremental step by step measures. The systems have failed utterly and the only hope for a real recovery requires the rule book to be torn up completely.

"We've heard from my cousin that the water problem hasn't been solved yet in Galway. That doesn't bother us, we've lived in the developing world so are used to boiling water."

I would like to reassure them that Dick Roche is our Minister for the Environment and that whoever is to blame, it ain't him.

My question to readers is: do you think the Canadians will be reassured by this?

Local Authories in Ireland are responsible for water, roads housing and the electoral register.

They get vast amounts of money from government, ratepayers and the motorist (motor tax).

They are responsible for the state of water and the electoral register.

Local Authorities are hapless organisations - that don't work.

    They are overstaffed and inefficent.

Water is Galway is their responsibility.

When a business pays water charges - the cheque goes to their local authority.

When has the Galway County manger been on TV?

Typical FF. Pass the buck. Evade Responsibility. Blame everyone else. Is it any wonder ye're facing an electoral pasting.
