they are using sexy and healthy body images to promote fatty fried potato.
if i had any beef with them, it'd be for false advertisement not the gratious use of the female form.
i'm all for promoting a healthier lifestyle and would like that the HSE start putting up images of men and women who are healthy and sexy and sporty to encourage the 30% of our population who are overweight to do something about it.
it'd save millions in healthcare expenditure that is avoidable.

I don't mind sex being used to sell crisps.

I would like the ads to be funny though. These aren't.

But Chris, people will get their standard arguments out of the box on simple cues. A bit like baby seagulls tapping on red dots on plastic seagulls' beaks (or indeed on any red dots at all). The only difference is that the baby seagulls probably don't feel embarrassed afterwards. ...

It has worked and good luck to them.

The proud sponsers of Irish rugby is a bit sneaky but then again by sponsoring a team in Navan they are are supporting Irish rugby. I'm not sure the IRFU would win this or if they should even try. Even if they do then Largo's get even more coverage. They must be over the moon with this campaign
What will get Hunky Dorys a rap on the knuckles and a legal bill is a single capital 'R'.

The key words are 'Irish Rugby' - that's a registered trade name of the IRFU. Much like Munster Rugby and Leinster Rugby are registered trade names of the Munster and Leinster branches.

The IRFU website is Irish Rugby : Home. Google 'Irish Rugby' and that's the first thing to come up.

By using 'Proud sponsors of Irish Rugby' Hunky Dorys have implied they are sponsors of the IRFU which they patently are not.

Had they said 'Proud sponsors of Irish rugby' then they could have justifiably claimed they were sponsors of the game of rugby in Ireland through their local team in Navan.

It's a very subtle difference but one with which the IRFU are on solid ground legally and seem determined to highlight and have clarified.

If IRFU do that through legal action then Hunky Dorys will get a legal bill that will probably wipe out any extra profits they get through the ad campaign and subsequent free publicity.

    As I said, a very nasty after-taste.

Well, considering that sports bras are designed to remove that pleasing (from some points of view) jiggly effect, I'd say you're right.

That's fair enough, I don't doubt you, but it also doesn't explain the thread title.

Of course not! But you didn't have to use the same style for the thread title, you could have voiced your concerns, objections, opinions very forcefully in the thread.

Would have been better than using slang in the title probably. I just want to point out, I don't have a problem with your thread, title, outrage or objections, but surely you see the parellels with the advertisers tactics to attract attention ?

That's obviously fair enough. I'd say the ad is fairly certain to be targeted at men though. People who are outraged should simply abstain from buying the sellers products and/or write a letter of complaint. If the majority are similarly outraged, they won't make the same mistake twice.

heavy sports require jiggle control, ask any secondary school student (actually don't)
now theres no jiggle control in this ad, thus I maintain the ad was put up to make
eejits out of guys (who get moobs from eating trash) and to annoy women, who know
    its a titty titillator.

so apart from a bit of banter, all they have achieved is a bit of raj and a few lost
    customers (until the Tv commercials)

In the real wotld what image will sell more product, a sexy girl like the hunky dory ad or a sour puss like the picture in your avatar?
    Never heard of light-hearted banter?

Don't see any sourness in C's avatar, unlike your posts.
