    Polluted drinking water

I was listening to RTE 1 a few moments ago and there was a shocking expose of the disreguard for animal pollution by Fianna Fail and the farmers. Seems concerned citizens had to go to the European Court 10 years ago to get Fianna Fail condemned officially, but they continued to ignore the problem. The incredible power of the farmers lobby and the Padraig Walshes of our society.
Now the chickens have come home to roost -at the right time thank God  in Galway and elsewhere.
What amazes me is I holiday in Austria every year and it is very much a farming nation. I walk the mountains and swim in the numerous lakes there- many of which are adjacent to cattle farms and animals grazing nearby.!
Can anybody tell me why these lakes are so clean and ours are filthy and polluted?

Ireland is one of the few countries in the EU who persist with the use of slatted house to manage animal waste. Ireland was also the last country to transpose the Nitrates Directive into National Law (15 years after the Directive was first issued).

    Why?

Because when FF are in power, FG say to the IFA:

"Vote for us. We'll give you anything you want."

And when FG are in power, FF say to the IFA:

"Vote for us. We'll give you anything you want."
The only way to change the world is to win elections.

Yeah, we got some real prime Green representation in Leinster house but that has just made things go from bad to worse.
Your first post holds the answer in how to deal with Ireland's water management problems, that is to refer matters directly to the European court, otherwise.... nothing changes.
