who pays for the bin tags ,do you not think your scheme would not lead to more littering, why pay bin charges ,throw it along the road and get it collected for free

Isnt it amazing how ireland and anywhere else for that matter, such a small country struggles with the basics like a clean town or city.. If I was a council mananger i would kick holes.

No - littering is and should continue to be subject to fines and penalties as is currently the case.
Since when did street cleaners encourage litter ?
So nobody is going to litter more just because it gets cleaned up...
And, in reality, the number of filled bin bags would be small - we are not talking about large volumes of litter.
So collection charges would be small, and, of course, since the council are collecting them anyway - its all taxpayers money going in a circle - so the total cost is zero.

Depends on area, my area has a nice big Co Council and no doubt plenty of staff to match. Little to no Co Council activity taking place at present. Litter everywhere, hedges over grown, roads in terrible state.

Another stealth tax, nothing to do with cleaning up chewing gum, take a look around next time your about town, chewing gum stuck to roads and pavements as far as the eye can see.

Adding charges is not a solution, where does it end? How about an anti farmer muck spreading on road tax? a fallen over wheely bin tax? a tax for placing litter into a Co Council litter bin thats full up? a small child dropping litter by accident tax?

Its not above a local Co Councils wage bill to employ a hand full of maintenance workers to look after surrounding area. Litter will always make its way onto streets, ditches and lanes etc no matter how eco friendly the population is. The problem is nobody around to clean litter up.

County County workers pick up litter around Swords now because it was described as Ireland's dirtiest town some years ago. Not any more!

Recently in Manchester UK I saw the filth along the railway lines and roads.

I pick up litter thrown into our garden adjacent to a main road and along the footpaths near our home. Do you?

What was surprising is that nearly all this stuff can be recycled for free!
So what is the excuse for just dumping recyclable household rubbish at the side of the road?
Should the penalties for this type of behaviour be looked at again?
Perhaps if convicted offenders were required to spend 10-20 Saturdays of the year picking up such material in their locality whilst wearing fluorescent orange suits, they might think again before re-offending?

Got to say, Ive noticed the same thing. It had improved with the law bringing in a charge for plastic bags, but there definately seems to be an uptick in theamount of sh1t thrown on the ground.

I personally find this trait of Irish people to be very revealing of their breeding and upbringing.

The country needs a spring clean in more ways than one

What does this have to do with money? It's just people dropping stuff on the ground.
