I thought socialism consisted of workers seizing control of the means of production.

Capitalist governments have always engaged in extensive central planning.

They damage the credibility of three or four scientists. They raise questions about the integrity of one or perhaps two out of several hundred lines of evidence."

Read "The Classic Slum" by Robert Roberts, Oxford press.

The slum terraced houses he wrote about in Salford city UK were replaced by high-rise which are now slums with people existing in them just as uneducated as their grandparents were. Meanwhile square miles of those Corrie terraces still exist and nearly all the pubs that serve them are taken over by drug dealers!

People fear to walk at night.

    It's education that matters!

I knew Robert Roberts, a lovely and inspiring man (RIP) he lived in the tree lined streets of Prestwich greater Manchester after leaving behind the slum thanks to a good education.

    Hurin:

You say "The people who are most actively resisting cap and trade are the "green NGOs" who are relentlessly demonised by sceptics here."

    Sources please.

    Sure, no problem:

In January in New York, activists confronted the IGlobalForum Carbon Trading Summit with a demonstration outside and a disruption of the trade fair. Read more here:
Climate Justice Activists confront Carbon Trade Summit with demonstration, direct action | Climate Justice Action

Carbon trading is criticised for failing to achieve emissions reductions, strangling the development of technology and poor countries, and dispossessing small farmers of their land. Stopping its worldwide implementation is a key priority of all climate justice groups. Friends of the Earth have a thorough report on the practice available here in full or there in summary.

New Greenpeace report: Trading in forest carbon would crash carbon markets | REDD-Monitor and thus carbon trading would fail to cut emissions.

La Via Campesina says: Carbon Traders failed in Copenhagen. The future lies in people's hands
